The start of a new year

Blog Entry: 6th September 2021

At the start of a new year it is wonderful to welcome the children and families to the setting and to support them as they settle and form attachments with the adults and children. This is true for our new children and also those who are returning after the summer holidays.
Settling in is a process which is different for every child and our priority is to give each individual time to feel connected and safe at playgroup before we expect them to attend without their trusted adult. With this in mind we adapt our process to suit each child.
Feeling connected and having adults who are trusted is vital; each child needs to know that they are loved and valued for who they are, and that they will be heard and cared for. This is essential for a child's well being and future learning.
As I played and chatted with a child this morning, who had felt a little wobbly about coming in, we spoke about how important it is that we look after the children at playgroup and care for them while they aren't with their parents. He stopped playing, looked at me and said, "You're like our playgroup Mummies and Daddies," and then carried on playing. I think his summary was rather lovely!
